“I’m always proud when we’re able to help organizations that are experiencing any challenge in HR/Payroll, whether that be staffing, or a project related to their Employee Life Cycle or HCM. Helping clients achieve business objectives based upon optimizing their processes or technology has been great.“
Welcome to our series about what makes Willory truly unique: our team. Without the people on the Willory team we would not be recognized as one of the top workplaces in Northeast Ohio and have grown so significantly in the last eight years.
Get to know Willory’s Sales Manager, Bob Haas through his own words. If Bob’s words resonate with you and you want to join #TeamWillory, check out our Why Willory? page.
HOW DID YOU FIND WILLORY?
John had advertised an internship for another company of his through Kent State University’s College of Business. I started as an intern with John’s other company mainly handling promotional and marketing activities. Around that time I had decided I wanted to get into the staffing industry after graduation based upon a professional in the talent acquisition space speaking to a business marketing class of mine. Coincidentally, John was just starting Willory and we discussed the opportunity. I joined the business a week after graduation.
IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT SEPARATES WILLORY FROM OTHER RECRUITING FIRMS?
- We have leadership that builds our team members to be the best version of themselves. In an industry where high turnover is normal and expected, Willory defies this by carefully making hiring decisions and scaling at the appropriate times, while making sure a person is a good fit culturally before bringing them on board.
- Our response time.
- We truly become an extension of our client.
- Developing deep rooted relationships with our clients & candidates that have worked with Willory for many years.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE EVENT/CONFERENCE THAT WILLORY HAS BEEN A PART OF? IF SO WHAT STOOD OUT TO YOU?
NOHRC (Northern Ohio HR Conference), Ohio SHRM, and OCPP (Ohio Conference for Payroll Professionals) have all been very enjoyable experiences. Willory has been involved in sponsoring and/or being an exhibitor at these conferences for a number of years now and they’re great to attend as we get to see many of our clients, candidates, and partners we’ve worked with. Often, Willory is known for having some of the best giveaways as well, so it’s just always fun to be a part of that atmosphere.
WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT WHILE WORKING AT THE FIRM?
While involved in recruiting earlier in my career, I was able to help individuals secure their ‘dream job.’ This can often be an emotional time for the candidate as they achieve a position/title, compensation range, or simply join a team that they had been seeking for quite some time. It’s awesome when you can help people in this way and understand the effect this new position has on that person, their family, and the organization they are joining.Currently in my sales role, I’m always proud when we’re able to help organizations that are experiencing any challenge in HR/Payroll, whether that be staffing, or a project related to their Employee Life Cycle or HCM. Helping clients achieve business objectives based upon optimizing their processes or technology has been great as we have a highly capable team of HR/Payroll professionals within our team that always provide great value to our clients through expertise in the field or HR/Payroll.
HOW HAS WILLORY HELPED YOU IN YOUR CAREER DEVELOPMENT?
Willory has helped with my career development by shaping me into the professional I am today. The organization has helped me professionally by presenting opportunities to grow such as memberships and involvement in various organizations, certifications, mentorship programs, and other continued learning opportunities. Our leadership is always looking for ways to further develop our team, which I don’t take for granted as I talk to professionals at times that don’t get this level of support or need to seek this out on their own.
LOOKING BACK AT YOUR ACADEMIC CAREER WHAT DID YOU LEARN THAT IMPACTED YOU THE MOST?
I would say more than anything I learned, my academic career taught me perseverance. I was able to graduate, all while being involved in various groups/organizations, and working 20+ hours per week. This time in my life played a major role for me as you just work through it with the constant belief that it will all be worth it and all of the hard work will reward me with greater opportunities upon completion.
HOW IS YOUR WORK LIFE BALANCE? WHAT DO YOU SPEND MOST OF YOUR TIME DOING OUTSIDE OF WORKING AT WILLORY?
Outside of work I try to stay active by exercising that includes weightlifting, running, and biking. I also spend time trying to get my golf game better by taking lessons and getting to the course or driving range as much as I can during the warmer months. My wife and I like to travel as well, whether it be to snowboard out west or enjoying a picturesque beach in the Caribbean, we always try to plan that next enjoyable trip. I also enjoy just spending time outside of work, working on projects around the house as there’s a great sense of satisfaction once you’ve taken any idea from concept to reality.
