We all have numerous things outside of the workplace that greatly impact our lives. I wanted to share a topic that is near and dear to my heart: supporting your employees through life changes.
Earlier this year, my mom, unfortunately, passed away. I was deeply touched by how the entire Willory team supported me through this difficult time. They showed many kind comments and thoughts with my family and supported me while I had to attend to affairs on my family’s behalf.
This experience made me think of several things that are core to our group, and I encourage you to share them with your organization.
Make sure that family is first! If you don’t allow employees to take care of their business at home, it will impact their work in a negative way. Make sure to give them the opportunities to take care of loved or spend time with child on a school trip.
There are resources that your workplace can offer to help employees during challenging times, such as counseling, books, community, and much more.
- One area that we have found to be extremely beneficial to our entire team has been through doing training’s on emotional intelligence. We have discussed the ideas of EQ, Crucial Conversations, Crucial Accountability, and much more which has not only improved the work lives of our team but our personal lives as well.
- Make sure to work with employees to establish policies around flexible schedules and time away from work. Being able to set these flex-type schedules and develop consistent routines from them can really benefit everyone in the organization and increase productivity while working.
- Continuously share about resources your company offers to your team. Whether it was a seminar your employees attended or a training exercise. If an individual is hungry to learn more give them that opportunity!
At the end of the day, our work doesn’t define who we are; we define who we are. Family should be the number one thing that’s in front of you. Work will always be there. I encourage you to provide your team with that opportunity so you can move your organization forward with having highly engaged employees.
